Expansion Stage Milestones

By the expansion stage, the Company has launched its products, has customers and sales revenues, and management is focused on growth.  Most of the milestones involved in the expansion stage involve growing the sales teams, the management teams, building a pipeline of sales and turning a profit.

Investors often define the expansion stage in terms of:

  • Revenues:  $2M to $20M per year.
  • Profitability: Currently profitable or soon to be.
  • Scalability: Immediately scalable, with a reasonable expectation of $50 million in revenues within five years

Notes about Milestones

Milestones have to be achieved in parallel—when reviewing these milestones, it's important to recognize that the process is not entirely serial. Management has to work on several milestones in parallel.

Milestones are different for every company—the list of milestones has to be tailored for each company to reflect its specific market, technologies and challenges.

Milestones have dependencies—some milestones cannot be commenced until others have been successfully completed.
